Last Sunset of the Year

I thought of taking a much clichéd “last sunset of the year” photograph. It really may be so as I may not be able to get the sunset from near the Al Qasbah Canal, next year. The skyline would probably be just skyscrapers then.
A tea festival is on at the Al Qasbah. I was a little too early, as I couldn’t get a cup of tea. The kiosks marked India, Sri Lanka and UK had not switched on their water boilers.
I managed to get a flock of sea gulls, flying into the sunset.

Sunrise at Sharjah Corniche

I took these pictures this morning. The sky was filled with clouds. As the sun climbed, the clouds turned from grey to fiery red before changing to white.

There were a lot of sea gulls flying around, but only came in front of the camera.

Heritage area, Sharjah

The old Sharjah area, is being rebuilt, as the Heritage area. The buildings are built in the way it was built for centuries, using coral and mortar.

Coral walls and the wind towers, kept the buildings cool in the harsh climate of the region.

Dangerous Jobs

This building is on the Sharjah Cornish. Workers clean the spherical portion by hanging from the structures that moves around while they clean. Not a job for the faint hearted.

King Faizal Street is usually clogged. But when the traffic does move, it is just streaks of light.

Dragonfly

I saw this red dragonfly perched on wiper blade of a car. In Sharjah, a lot of workers suppliment their incomes by washing cars. Invariably, just to indicate that they have washed a car, they leave the wiper sticking up.
I went in got my camera, not expecting the dragonfly to be around, but he hadn't moved. I stuck the camera in as close as could, about 200mm, took the pictures on macro setting. The dragonfly did flap his wings and stare at me angrily with his large multiple eyes, but did not fly away. I took more than 60 pictures and he was still on the wiper when I left.

Abu Shagara, Sharjah - Graffiti

This building has been ready for demolition for the last fifteen years. So finally some one has found some use for it.
The graffiti is good, in parts, but the artists need to come back and finish the work. At present it looks half baked.

The guy, below, recycling cartons, has also found the abandoned place useful.

Sharjah Corniche in Fog

I took these pictures, during a heavy fog, at 9.00 am, on 17th November 2007. The sun, when it was visible, seemed like a pale moon. All skyscrapers around the corniche were barely visible.
